Union City accepts police resignation, approves background checks and contract for new officer

Council accepted a resignation letter dated Sept. 18, 2024 from part-time Officer Rick Skonieczka effective no later than Sept. 30, 2024. The motion to accept the resignation was made by Councilor Joyce and seconded by Councilor Steadman.
Chief Pernice presented a civil service certified list with two candidates and requested permission to proceed with background checks and to hire two part-time officers. Council approved completing background checks. After an executive session on personnel and contracts, Council moved to approve a police contract for Zackery Shelly (motion by Councilor Steadman, seconded by Councilor Kerns).
