Legislature extends authority for virtual meetings through mid-2028

The Tompkins County Legislature unanimously adopted Local Law C of 2026, extending the county's authority to hold virtual public meetings through July 15, 2028. Legislators said the local law preserves quorum requirements and existing rules governing when and how members may attend remotely.
Supporters said the extension helps ensure members and constituents can continue to participate when life circumstances prevent in-person attendance. "This ensures that if stuff happens in life ... we can continue to represent those that elected us to represent them and share their voice through the process," Greg Mezey said in support. The local law was approved by voice/hand-raise vote.
