Union City approves $22,295 repair for sinkhole at Municipal Lot #1

Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips told council that a sinkhole affecting a 24-inch clay tile at Municipal Lot #1 requires replacing the tile, reconnecting pipes in the sinkhole, installing a larger catch basin and replacing roughly 10 feet of pipe. Engineer Tim Wells and consultant Bob Carpenter recommended lining the pipe in sections and replacement around the sinkhole.
Council reviewed two estimates and approved the lower Mansfield bid of $22,295 (the McLallen Construction estimate was $23,450). Both bids required the borough to supply a truck during the project. Councilor Steadman moved the contract award and Councilor Osborn seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
