Mayor Jennifer Perez announced that she will not seek reelection in November after "a great deal of reflection," telling the council and the public that the choice was difficult but deliberate. "After a great deal of reflection, I myself have decided that I will not be seeking reelection in November," Perez said.
Perez framed the announcement as a decision to focus on completing projects already underway, promising a concerted effort over the coming months. She thanked staff and council colleagues for their trust and described her nine-and-a-half years in office as “the honor of my life,” saying she will continue to work at "hyper speed" to finish priorities before leaving office.
