Police chief reports difficulty contacting approved hire, council agrees to continue search

Police Chief David Pernice updated the Union City Borough Council on staffing for the department at the Aug. 27 meeting, saying he had been unable to contact the candidate previously approved for hire. "He has tried to make contact but has had no luck. He is assuming he is no longer interested," Pernice said.
Pernice told council there are 32 candidates on the consortium list. Although his preference would be to hire two part-time officers, only one position had been approved by council. He said he will reach out to the consortium, check with the Civil Service Commission to set up oral exams and send out letters to candidates. Council agreed to continue the search for one part-time officer.
