Council adopts emergency stormwater and erosion ordinance effective Nov. 1
Summary

Council approved an ordinance amending Chapter 26 (Environment) to repeal the separate erosion and sediment-control article and consolidate rules under Article 7 for erosion and stormwater management. Mr. Price presented the change as an emergency action to conform city code with recent state legal and regulatory changes; council voted unanimously (9-0) to make the ordinance effective Nov. 1, 2024.
Mr. Price told the council the consolidation brings local code into alignment with the Code of Virginia and the Virginia Administrative Code and that the action was requested by Public Works as an emergency measure to be effective before November. The vote was recorded in open session and no amendments were offered.
