The Village of Makanda reported that legal counsel has sent a certified letter to the owner of the Crackersneck property, Daniel Stankiewicz, requesting demolition of structures and cleanup of the lot. Board members reviewed counsel's update during the March 3 meeting and directed that the Village send an additional letter addressing brush, litter and weed removal on the parcel because the house is "not falling in," according to the minutes.
No formal vote was recorded on additional enforcement at the meeting; the action reported was notification by legal counsel and the board's intent to follow up with a Village letter. The board will continue to track counsel's enforcement steps and any required demolition or remediation timelines.
