City Manager Price presented a request to increase the fire department complement by one full-time lieutenant and one part-time paramedic and to appropriate $779,923 to the fire department operating budget from the general fund balance for an EMS pharmacy program. Manager Price said the changes respond to federal and state mandates that shift additional responsibilities to the city and its relationship with the hospital.
Councilmember Ritter asked about the genesis of the need; Manager Price replied that the changes derive from new federal and state mandates and are being implemented locally. After brief discussion, the council approved the request by a seven-zero vote, and the clerk recorded the motion to approve.
