Selectboard approves limited tree removal for Bay Road wastewater work

The Shelburne Selectboard on July 28 approved a motion to proceed with limited tree removal needed for the Bay Road Wastewater Treatment Facility construction project, voting 5-0 to move ahead in consultation with the Tree Warden.
Tree Warden David Hall said he inspected the project area. Project Manager Jason Booth told the board that "Removal of these trees is required to move this project forward," citing the setup of the drill rig and other construction constraints. Booth also said trees cannot be planted directly over sewer pipes but that a reforestation plan is included in the wetlands mitigation package and that new plantings could be placed adjacent to the disturbed area.
The board opened a public hearing on appeals to cutting certain shade trees as required by Vermont statutes and the Town’s Shade Tree Preservation Plan and received no public comments during the hearing. After discussion, Mike Ashooh moved, seconded by Chunka Mui, to proceed with the limited tree removal; the motion passed 5-0.
