Toby Scott, chairman of the Lakeshore Protection Committee, reported to the council that committee members are pursuing discussions with county planning staff and state legislators to expand the city's jurisdiction over Whitefish Lake. Scott said he has met with county planning staff and plans to pursue legislation next winter that might give the city authority around the entire lake rather than only the southern portion now under city oversight.
Scott framed the effort as cooperative and legislative: he said meetings with county planning staff and a state senator are underway and that the committee is drafting proposed statutory language; he also said the change would require committee work and legislative committee review before any law could be passed. Council thanked Scott for continuing to pursue the issue.
