The vehicle includes a wheelchair lift, HVAC, a generator and solar panels and a 55‑inch monitor for programming.
By the numbers, staff said Zippy reached roughly 1,200 residents from May through July; in July the vehicle made two visits serving 172 residents, resulted in 118 book checkouts and produced six new library cards. Staff emphasized the outreach focus on lower‑income residents and populations with limited transportation access.
Staff outlined upcoming events (August collaboration with a local nonprofit and its outreach vehicle, September library‑card sign‑up at Bernal, October Pleasantonpalooza, November Ridgeview Commons, December Hometown Holiday) and invited commissioners to recommend priority locations, partners and programming for 2027. Commissioner suggestions included concerts in the park, preschools, tournaments and repeat visits to the same underserved sites to build recognition.
Leah said the department uses vetted volunteers including volunteer drivers through a police volunteer program and that regular volunteers are fingerprint‑checked. Staff will bring a proposed 2027 schedule and asked commissioners whether they wanted to formalize priorities by motion (which would make them part of action minutes).
