Board approves $1 sale of district land to City to enable Litchfield recreation center

The Litchfield Public Schools Board on Aug. 12 approved a Facility Use Agreement with the City of Litchfield and authorized the sale of a district parcel so the City can construct the Litchfield Area Recreational Center. Board member Julie Pennertz introduced the resolution and moved its adoption; Alex Carlson seconded the motion.

The resolution cites state special legislation that allocates $6,000,000 in grants for acquiring land and constructing the community wellness and recreation center and directs the School District to convey the described property to the City for nominal consideration. It also directs the district administration, with legal counsel, to prepare a purchase agreement and related instruments; the sale price is set at $1.00. The resolution cites Section 465.035 of the Minnesota Statutes as authorization for the conveyance.

The motion carried, with five members voting in favor (Greg Mathews, Marcia Provencher, Michelle Falling, Julie Pennertz and Alex Carlson) and one member voting against (Darrin Anderson). The minutes record that the resolution was declared duly passed and adopted. The Board authorized the Board Chair and Clerk to execute the Facility Use Agreement and related documents, subject to review by the Business Manager and legal counsel.

The minutes include Exhibit A, a metes-and-bounds description of the parcel to be conveyed in Meeker County. Next steps in the minutes direct the administration to finalize purchase agreement terms and complete conveyance documents as appropriate.
