Planning staff told the Board of Architectural Review that a middle-housing ordinance has passed and that the policy change is likely to spur more townhouse projects in the community.
"The minimum housing the middle housing ordinance did pass," Jacob Peabody said in the staff report. Peabody added that the change could lead to several townhouse projects currently in the works and clarified the intention was not to focus on student housing.
Board members asked how the change would be handled administratively and whether projects would be routed to the board for design review; staff said a few non-student townhouse proposals are expected to come forward and that the board would see applicable projects as they enter the review pipeline.
Next steps: staff will monitor proposals that arise under the new ordinance and bring individual projects to the board for review and action as required by the city code.
