Stony Creek Joint Unified board holds special session, receives 'Budget 101' briefing and approves agenda

The Stony Creek Joint Unified School District Board of Education met in special session on Jan. 8, 2025, at Elk Creek High School. President Ritta Martin called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. and established a quorum with board members Delana Martin, Krystal Craven, Diana Corkill and Cathie Bodeker present.
Krystal Craven moved to approve the agenda; Cathie Bodeker seconded and the motion carried unanimously, 5-0. The meeting included a scheduled district presentation titled "Budget 101" by Chief Business Officer Dusty Thompson and a public comment period. The board adjourned to closed session at 2:10 p.m., reconvened at 3:51 p.m., and the meeting was adjourned at 3:52 p.m. Minutes were signed by Superintendent/Principal Emily Pendell as secretary to the board.
Why it matters: the Feb. and monthly financial reports and the district budget are central to board oversight of district operations and staffing. The CBO presentation was intended to clarify how district revenues and expenditures are reported to the board and to improve members' ability to interpret those monthly reports going forward.
