Shelburnes eight-year CIP climbs to about $70M; fire/rescue and historic preservation prioritized

Aaron DeNamur presented an updated Capital Improvement Plan that the committee said has grown from roughly $60 million to closer to $70 million over an eight-year horizon, driven by higher inflation expectations and additional community improvements. Projects called out included Webster Road and Bay Road bike/ped improvements, Village Center upgrades to support downtown designation and grant access, and major preservation work on several historic town buildings.
DeNamur estimated a new combined fire/rescue station would cost about $15 million for a 17,000-square-foot facility; a rescue-only station was estimated in the $3.5 $5 million range, and repair/refurbishment of the existing rescue station (roughly 3,000 sq. ft.) was noted as a critical need. Preliminary estimates for preservation of Pearson Library, Town Hall, and Town Offices were given in a $10 million to $20 million range. The committee recommended exploring additional impact fees, service fees and other revenue sources to help offset CIP costs.
