EDC approves $500 chamber-membership grant for Smoking Jay Homemade Burgers and Barbecue

Kristen Edwards said the chamber-membership grant program (created in August 2023) assists new or existing for-profit businesses that have not previously joined the Texas City–Lamar chamber of commerce; staff received a completed application from Smoking Jay, which previously appeared for a business-improvement grant. A board member asked where the restaurant is located and Edwards said it is at Mainland City Center.
The board moved, seconded and voted in favor of the measure; the grant will be drawn from the EDC grant line in the FY2027 budget.
