The board's resolution, introduced by Member Michelle Falling and seconded by Member Julie Pennertz, found that the proposed TIF District and plan conform to Minnesota Statutes (Sections 469.124'469.133 and 469.174'469.1794) and "will help provide increased workforce housing opportunities in the City and School District," language included in the adopted text. The vote in favor was Anderson, Pennertz, Provencher, Falling and Carlson; none voted against.
Board members said the plan's intent is to provide only the public assistance necessary to make private redevelopment financially feasible and to afford maximum opportunity for private enterprise to redevelop the project. The resolution notes that the School Board's approval is "subject to approval thereof by the City Council following its public hearing thereon."
Next steps: the action recorded at the school board level leaves formal establishment and adoption of the TIF Plan to the City Council process, including the public hearing the City held on Aug. 19, 2024 as referenced in the resolution.
