The Inyo County Board of Education voted 4-0 on April 17 to overturn an earlier denial and approve interdistrict transfers for two students from Owens Valley Unified School District to Lone Pine Unified School District for the 2025/26 school year. Member George Lozito moved to overturn the denial; the motion was seconded by Board President Chris Langley and carried with four affirmative votes and one member listed as absent.
Parents Savanah and Luke Smith appeared at the special meeting to advocate for their children, and one parent read a statement to the superintendent and the board. Owens Valley Unified Superintendent Rosanne Lampariello submitted a supporting statement by email that was provided to the board. No representative from Lone Pine Unified was present and the minutes record no rebuttal from any party. The board’s action grants the interdistrict transfers for the upcoming 2025/26 school year.
The vote and motion were recorded in the meeting minutes: Member George Lozito moved to overturn the Interdistrict Transfer denial; President Chris Langley seconded; motion carried 4-0. The board adjourned and announced its next meeting for May 8 at 3:30 p.m. at Cerro Coso Community College in Bishop.
