Director reports Community Schools moves to implementation; summer meals served up to 250 daily

Brooke Kensler, Director of Special Education, said the district is entering the implementation phase after completing asset mapping and needs assessment, meaning the district will begin placing services and supports directly for students and families. Kensler highlighted the summer meals program, saying staff "have been serving up to 250 meals a day, rain or shine," and described outreach efforts to identify barriers for families who did not pick up meals. Kensler cited an example in which staff arranged deliveries to a new mother and coordinated with a family whose child walked four miles to pick up meals to reduce that burden.
Kensler also said the district is finalizing an MOU with the St. Louis Food Bank to provide ongoing deliveries to resource centers and invited board members to a Community Schools CIC meeting scheduled for July 30. The report emphasized relationship-building and follow-through as central to the Community Schools approach.
