The Sulphur Springs Union School District board approved both the 2025–26 and 2026–27 school calendars at its March 12 meeting. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jay Greenlinger explained the changes and noted bargaining units and management reviewed the proposals.
Key changes for 2025–26 include a weekly early release on Wednesdays of 1 hour and 50 minutes (previously 1 hour), a reduction in minimum days from 11 to 7, and a revised Wednesday schedule replacing the typical 60‑minute recess and lunch with a single 35‑minute brunch to minimize loss of instructional minutes; staff characterized the yearly instructional‑minute change as “less than one minute per day.” Trustees approved both calendars by 5–0 voice votes.
Board members thanked representatives from SSDTA and CSEA Chapter #298 for participating in calendar review. Staff will coordinate communications to families and finalize schedules for site implementation.
