Council approves Oppidan senior living plan, rezoning and a local fire-code variance

The Maple Grove City Council adopted Ordinance No. 26-07 rezoning a roughly 10-acre site near Arbor Ridge Parkway and 101st Avenue North to allow a 195-unit Oppidan Maple Grove Senior Living development, and approved the Development Stage Plan and preliminary plat subject to addressing remaining staff memorandums. The project includes independent living, assisted living, memory care and townhome-style units and includes a four-acre outlot planned for future commercial or office use.
Eric Martin, representing Oppidan Investment Company, thanked the council and said the project "would provide high quality housing and care options for the seniors of Maple Grove." Acting Fire Chief Bill Abderhalden reviewed Appendix D of the State Fire Code and recommended the council grant a local fire-code variance to shorten the length of the fire apparatus access road because extending it would impact adjacent wetlands; the council approved the variance and the development actions on unanimous votes.
