The committee reappointed Peter Kirtland to the National Entertainment Commission on Aug. 4, 2026. Kirtland, who said he has worked in Nashville’s entertainment industry for more than four decades, told the committee the commission’s formation faced legislative turmoil and that recent changes have stalled progress on priorities the panel intended to pursue.
Kirtland said he hoped a new approach could allow the commission to hire or retain an executive director with continuity beyond a single mayoral term; "Honestly, I'm very concerned about that because I feel like we were going in a very productive path, and we had the rug pulled out from under us," he said. The committee voted to reappoint him and will forward the nomination to the full council.
