Jeff Lazzi, the town's recreation director, told the Select Board the summer camp is averaging about 20 children and that the department recently ran swim lessons with roughly 80 participants in a two-week session and 62 in other seasonal sessions. "Right now, summer camp, we have an average of 20 kids. They're there. They're having they're having a blast in the community center," he said.
Lazzi also described program expansion and partnerships: pickleball sessions, youth programming, adult sports leagues, and an arrangement with the Southern Maine Agency on Aging to start a weekly day program providing respite and services for seniors. He said the rec department is the only one in the area offering some swim instruction and that instructor capacity limits further expansion without recruitment.
Board members praised the recreation offerings and encouraged continued outreach to ensure residents know about programs and schedules.
