Superintendent highlights Indigenous Peoples' Day lessons, Respect Retreats and staff development

Superintendent Ben Barton reported that "The lessons presented to students for Indigenous People’s day were very well thought out and well received," and said the Climate and Culture committee is focusing on how respectful behavior supports student learning. He said Respect Retreats are planned to build trust and respect among students and described the Voice Framework as a staff-development tool to help staff understand underlying causes of student behavior.
Barton also said the district will continue Community Engagement Task Force meetings and is working to increase community involvement in district efforts. The remarks were presented as an information update; no formal action was taken on these items at the Oct. 15 meeting.
