The Wrenshall School Board voted to adopt a resolution to reopen 4th grade for open enrollment for the 2024–25 school year and to set wait‑list criteria for grade levels closed to additional open‑enrolled students. The resolution, moved and adopted at the Aug. 12 meeting, limits the number of nonresident students in 4th grade to a cap that will not exceed 50 students while preserving the statutory minimum protections for existing residents and the one‑percent exception.
The resolution language states the board’s intent to limit nonresident enrollments in Grade 4 for 2024–25 and requires the superintendent, or designee, to report the number of nonresident students denied admission due to the limit to the Minnesota Department of Education by July 15, 2025, as required by Minnesota Statute. The board’s motion to “introduce and adopt the resolution” was recorded and carried with unanimous yea votes by the directors present.
Superintendent Jeff Pesta briefed the board on the staffing and organizational implications of reopening the grade; the agenda also reviewed recommendations to post anticipated Grade K–4 teacher vacancies earlier in the hiring process. The board additionally discussed procedures for maintaining the wait list and ensuring compliance with state reporting requirements.
