Director Laura Oksnevad reviewed a draft legislative platform Sept. 17 that the board can use to advocate locally, at the state level and nationally. Proposed items discussed included requests for more funding to the state funding formula, reducing the special education cross‑subsidy, pursuing equalization measures, promoting student‑centered learning, and allowing the board to use district websites for dissemination of board materials and minutes.
Oksnevad told the board the next step is to collaborate with the Communications Department and CESO to create a branded one‑pager; the board will see a revised draft at the Oct. 15 work session. No final policy was adopted at this meeting; the discussion was focused on priorities and messaging.
