District reports upgraded facilities as athletics participation rebounds above 400

Director of Athletics, Activities and Facilities Dr. Troy Urdahl briefed the board on facilities, athletics and activities at the Sept. 17 work session. He reported that more than 350 students returned to athletics in early and mid‑August and that fall program participation has exceeded 400 students.
Urdahl said custodial staff cleaned over 350,000 square feet during the summer; three sections of the 2009 roof at the high/middle school were replaced; the auditorium stage floor was replaced and lighting and sound were upgraded; the media center restroom was remodeled to accommodate a high/low treatment table; and fiber was installed at Central Park ball fields to enable Wi‑Fi, streaming and security improvements. Grounds staff coordinated with the city to regrade and edge Central Park infields. The board was also informed that intramural offerings were expanded to include SAMS students and that the Athletics and Activities Advisory Committee will discuss the potential addition of boys volleyball in October.
