Yreka plans in-house rewrite of expired general plan; code enforcement priorities focus on substandard housing

City staff told the council the city currently lacks an enforced general plan and staff are devoting internal resources to produce an updated document. "The city does not have a general plan right now that's enforced. It expired 2 years ago... it would be 1000000 dollars," the city manager said, noting the cost of hiring a consultant. Because of budget constraints, Juliana will work in-house on the plan roughly 20 to 30 hours a week for the next nine months.
Community development staff said code enforcement priorities are focused on building standards because the city has seen a significant number of substandard housing units, particularly apartment buildings, which pose health, safety and welfare concerns for residents. Staff said policies and procedures for code enforcement are being worked on with anticipated updates coming in October–November.
