Yreka announces police chief promoted, hires and $85,000 grant for body cameras

The city announced a leadership change in the police department and progress on staffing at the Aug. 4 meeting. "Today, officially, is, Patrick is no longer a lieutenant with the department. Officially, today, he is the chief," the city manager said, noting the department has hired three people and expects to be fully staffed by December.
The manager also said staff obtained a grant to purchase body-worn cameras and pursue small site improvements at the police facility. "So it's an $85,000 grant we got from SCORE," the manager said, adding staff will bring a contract forward for camera procurement at the Aug. 18 meeting. No formal vote occurred at the special meeting.
