The Brookings‑Harbor School District 17C Board voted unanimously Aug. 21 to approve a lengthy list of first‑read policy updates, a measure the board recorded as passing 4‑0.
The motion to approve ‘‘the remaining list of first read policies’’ was made by Katherine Johnson and seconded by Janece Payne; roll‑call votes were recorded and the motion passed. The approved list as read into the record included codes such as AC (Nondiscrimination), BBF (Board Member Standards of Conduct), GBEB (Communicable Diseases in Schools) and many others across student health, special education, hiring and emergency procedures. Several policies had been removed from first‑read consideration earlier in the meeting and will be re‑examined with associated administrative rules.
Board action was procedural: members did not request further substantive amendments to the items approved that evening. The superintendent and staff will follow up on administrative rules that the board asked to revisit, and the policies approved will proceed according to district practice for first‑read approvals.
The motion was recorded as passing 4‑0 (Katherine Johnson, Trish Walker, Janece Payne and Alan Nidiffer voting aye).
