Under SB13, Richardson ISD’s SLAC will serve as the review committee for book challenges

Alejandra Saiz told the council that SB13 changed the district’s challenge process so that SLAC acts as the review committee. "The SLAC becomes the committee," she said, describing the council’s role in reviewing challenged books and making recommendations to the board on whether to keep, remove, or re-level titles.
Saiz explained that public comments can be submitted through a district form prior to purchase and that formal challenges typically occur after an item is in the library collection; SLAC members can set an internal process for handling reconsiderations, and challenges may be filed at any time by parents, students or district employees.
