District will host author Mark Perna; board hears social-media concern about cost

Klamath County School District staff said Aug. 15 that nationally known author and speaker Mark Perna will present at Ross Ragland Theater on Aug. 27 as part of a district-coordinated event.
Tammy Ahalt urged board and cabinet members to attend. Board member Brooke Kliewer said she had seen a “very negative post on social media regarding the cost associated with the speaker” and asked whether the district should respond. Superintendent Glen Szymoniak said he had initially been opposed to the cost but the district partnered with other entities to cover Mr. Perna's fee.
The district distributed an informational packet about the event; no formal board action on the speaking engagement was recorded at the Aug. 15 meeting.
