District forms Equity Team ahead of state requirement, reviews anti-bullying policy

Sandra Harris, Director of Human Resources, told the board that Oregon requires school districts to establish an Equity Team by September 2025 and said the district has built a committee composed of community members, parents, a board member, teachers, Education Support Professionals, specialists, a Climate & Culture TOSA, administrators and HR staff. Harris said the team is actively recruiting a student representative and emphasized the group's goals: improving outcomes for marginalized students, celebrating cultural diversity, and reviewing district policies through an equity lens.
Harris said the Equity Team has already begun a proactive review of Policy GBNA-AR (Hazing, Harassment, Intimidation, Bullying, Menacing & Cyberbullying) to clarify reporting channels and adult response protocols. Regarding compliance, Harris confirmed to the board, "Yes, this is a requirement and yes, the district has an Equity Member on the budget committee as of January's meeting," indicating the district is meeting the state's committee representation requirement.
