Director of Finance Devin Collins told the board April 28 that he has followed legislative developments and learned months earlier that PERS rates are increasing, prompting district monitoring of spending and preparation for higher retirement costs.
"I learned that the PERS rates were going up. We are keeping up with the changes, and we have been monitoring district spending to prepare for this," Collins said. The board did not vote on any new fiscal measures at the meeting but discussed reserve planning in follow-on items.
Superintendent Nicole Albisu also said the district’s recent audit process has been delayed, calling the audit "frustrating" because deadlines have been pushed back; she said the district will receive new auditors soon. Both officials framed these points as part of the rationale for adopting budget goals and scheduling the public Budget Hearing.
