The Ontario School District 8C Board of Directors voted April 28 to move its Budget Hearing to May 29 at 5:00 PM and adopted the board’s budget goals for 2025–26 amid a projected budget deficit.
Superintendent Nicole Albisu told the board that ESSER funds are ending, health insurance rates are rising and the district’s proposed 2025–26 budget will be in a deficit. "The proposed budget for the 2025-2026 school year we will be in a deficit, but we will be okay with using some of reserve for year one," Albisu said.
Directors discussed available reserve levels and monitoring steps. Director Blanca Rodriguez moved to approve the Board Budget Goals; Director Matt Stringer seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The board then agreed to reschedule the public Budget Hearing to May 29 after noting notice requirements tied to the Argus Observer publication schedule.
Board members did not present a new revenue source at the meeting; the discussion framed the upcoming hearing as the forum for detailed budget review and public comment.
