Board hears progress on Intensive Program, Youth Truth survey and Youth Advisory Council
Summary
District staff described Intensive Program structures, monitoring and early recommendations; leaders announced plans to administer Youth Truth surveys to students, families and staff and to incorporate a Youth Advisory Council into district decision-making.
CJ Toole, Director of Prevention/Intervention, reviewed the Intensive Program launched in Fall 2023 under the Student Success Act. He described the program's advisory and stewarding bodies, the four-year commitment to equity-driven system change, and approved recommendations from 2023–24 including a Youth Truth partnership and a Youth Advisory Council to amplify student voice in planning.
Dr. Carolyn Bernal detailed administration plans for the Youth Truth survey: students in grades 3–12, families and staff will be surveyed; students will take the survey during school, the family survey will be available in English and Spanish with a five-day opt-out window for parents and the district expects student administration to take "20-25 minutes." Bernal said results will be used for site-level review, district leadership analysis and ongoing program monitoring. Toole said YAC members will sit on the Intensive Program's Advisory Body to ensure student perspectives shape district strategies.
