Multiple speakers recalled Lawson's leadership on campus facilities and his mentorship of staff. Myron Bryant said of Lawson: "He was a legend," and other trustees described Lawson as a "gold standard" whose legacy is visible across district buildings.
The scholarship will support students in CTE pathways aligned with Lawson's work on facilities and construction; the district said the fund is seeded and will accept additional contributions. Trustees and staff encouraged the community to honor Lawson's memory while the district continues planned facility work and construction projects he helped lead.
The remembrance set a somber tone for the meeting and preceded routine business including approvals and presentations.
