Board agrees to keep discussion of a "strategic stability bridge" for part‑time elementary music on a future agenda

The Gresham‑Barlow School District Board discussed an amendment to add a proposal called a "strategic stability bridge" to preserve part‑time elementary music instruction for 2026–27. Heather, who moved the amendment, described it as "a strategic stability bridge to allow us to ... remain open to what our community has asked ... for part time music" and said the measure would give the policy committee a full 12 months to explore permanent options.

Board members debated whether the proposed amendment raised issues that required more information than could be provided in a work session. One board member cautioned the assembly that "it seems like it's a fairly in‑depth amendment that we may not have all of the information that we need tonight to make a decision" and staff and other members agreed the matter should get a fuller airing. The chair asked whether the board would vote to add the item to the agenda; after procedural votes the board returned to the original agenda and Heather asked staff to place the item on an upcoming meeting as soon as possible. The board did not take final action on any music funding or program changes at the June 18 work session.

Staff and board members said the item will be scheduled for fuller review at a future meeting where more background, fiscal implications and community testimony can be provided. The board did not approve any expenditure related to music tonight.
