District reports enrollment jump to 1,762 and launches fall Star assessments

Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Michelle Martin told the board the district had enrolled almost 300 new students for the 2025-26 school year, about half in Pre-K and kindergarten, bringing total enrollment to 1,762. Martin said she expects registration changes as families withdraw or transfer and noted 162 returning students had not yet completed registration as of that morning.
Martin also outlined assessment and curriculum plans: Star benchmark assessments in Reading and Math will begin Sept. 2, with K'2 assessed via Star Early Literacy and grades 3'8 using Star Reading; all students will take Star Math. She noted K'5 curriculum maps are posted online and professional development (LETRS/ASPIRE) continues for teacher cohorts.
