Parent urges board to limit 1:1 devices and rethink EdTech and AI in classrooms

Katie Green spoke during public comment as a parent and asked the board to reconsider the role of one‑to‑one devices and educational technology in classroom instruction, and to adopt policies for developmentally appropriate use of AI and EdTech. "I'm not a Luddite, but this district needs to follow what's happening across the country and create developmentally appropriate policies and boundaries for the use of educational technology and AI in the classroom," Green said, contending that some widely used EdTech products produce gains only on their own metrics and may not translate to broader learning gains.
Administrators directed the public to the district's AI and technology survey and encouraged parents to submit responses before the Aug. 11 closing date. Board members and staff said the survey results will inform planning for the coming school year; no policy decision was made at the meeting. The assistant superintendent for curriculum noted 117 respondents to date and encouraged broader participation to guide any future policy changes.
