County: 550 trees surveyed, about 132 slated for removal in Trips Run project; native planting planned

During questions, a resident asked bluntly: "Are you going to do anything to try to save those trees?" Jacob Green replied that planting plans attempt to save healthy trees, remove dead or unsalvageable ones, manage invasive vines and that contractors typically clear trees early in the construction sequence.
Jacob Green provided inventory figures: "Of the 550 that we did survey that met that criteria, at this point, we're looking at taking out 132 of them. Dead, good, poor condition. And about 0.5 of those, we would look to reuse in various structures along the stream." Staff added the county plans to replant with native Virginia species, includes a one-year warranty on newly installed plants, and will monitor revegetation for a minimum of three years after construction.
Staff emphasized that any work on private property would require property-owner permission and that herbicide or invasive-species treatment ahead of construction will be coordinated where the county has authority.
