Board approves custodial services contract with small increase at high school to reduce turnover

Trustees approved a custodial services proposal that includes a modest increase targeted at the high school to address unusually high turnover.
Jim Lawson, presenting the proposal, said the $27,000 increase would apply only to Worthy Fate High School and is intended to incentivize workers to remain in that more challenging campus assignment. “It is not for an additional FTE. It is just to incentivize the people that are currently there,” Lawson said. The vendor has kept rates flat at elementary campuses and auxiliary sites, Lawson added.
The board voted 4–0 to approve the custodial services proposal as presented. Trustees praised observed improvements in cleaning and facility attention in other campuses and framed the increase as a cost‑effective step to retain experienced crews rather than hire replacements.
