Board approves three low-attendance waivers to protect district revenue

Royse City ISD trustees voted 5-0 to approve low-attendance waivers for three school days after hearing staff explain the attendance shortfalls.
Byron Bryant told the board the waiver request covered Jan. 30 and 31 at May Vernon Elementary, when the campus experienced a flu-related decline to "just over 84%" and about "81%" attendance respectively, and Feb. 19 districtwide, when attendance fell to approximately 79% during a cold-weather day. "We can get waivers for that day so that attendance doesn't hurt our revenue for that day," Bryant said.
The board moved to approve the waivers; Eric made the motion and Jessica seconded. The vote on the waivers passed 5-0. Trustees said the district's attendance monitoring, and staff tracking (including Marita Jackson's work) made the waiver submission straightforward.
