26th Street project: storm‑sewer work winding down; paving expected the week of Aug. 17

Aaron Schmidt gave a construction update on the 2026 26th Street project, saying contractors have mainly been installing a new storm sewer on the south end and that one remaining structure is expected on site later in the week. Schmidt said the contractor planned curb and gutter work at the end of the week and that the roadway crew intends to mill and remove excess reclaimed material in preparation for paving.
Schmidt acknowledged residents' mail‑delivery problems caused by constrained access and said contractors improved access to mailboxes and staff are pursuing temporary cluster mailboxes as a short‑term option. "So the contractors primarily been working on installing the new storm sewer on the south end of the project," Schmidt told the council. He said the contractor anticipates the first lift of asphalt the week of Aug. 17 and that the south segment will remain busy until that milestone.
Council members pressed for quicker fixes where deliveries were missed and urged staff to expedite any feasible temporary solutions. Staff agreed to continue exploring temporary cluster mailbox options while keeping residents updated on the schedule.
