The Board of Education of Independent School District No. 93 on May 5 recognized multiple retirees and introduced Dr. Jason James as the new superintendent. Interim Superintendent Dr. Teresa Wilkerson opened the district report and singled out retirees including Andrea Thomas, a teacher at Jefferson Elementary, and Kelly Laster, administrative assistant at Shawnee High School; outgoing board member Bobby Canty also was acknowledged by the board.
Dr. Wilkerson thanked school principals in honor of Principal Celebration Day and outlined student programs and safety work underway. "The drug dogs were at Shawnee Middle School and Shawnee High School and there were no hits from the dogs," Dr. Wilkerson said. She also noted district events and supports including a vaping‑prevention program for fifth graders called Catch My Breath and a National Bike Safety Month bike bus to promote safe routes to school. Board President Clif Harden publicly thanked Wilkerson "for stepping in and fulfilling the Superintendent's job" and welcomed Dr. James to the district.
