As part of its regular agenda on Aug. 13, the council approved a package of items requested by the sheriff to expand the School Deputy Resource Officer (SRO) program.
The city manager presented Item 5, which included (a) establishing six new full-time school deputy resource officer positions within the sheriff's office personnel complement, (b) appropriating $334,000 to the sheriff's FY2025 operating budget for vehicles to support those positions, and (c) transferring $225,000 to the jail operations program. Council members moved, seconded, and voted to approve each of the requests; the transcript records the motions as adopted by a nine-zero vote.
No amendments or recorded dissent were made on the council floor. The actions create new personnel authorizations and allocate funds to purchase vehicles and support jail operations connected with the sheriff's staffing request.
