District faces large kindergarten cohort; board to consider staffing options in October

Principal Shane Brown told the board that Driftwood School's kindergarten cohort has grown to the point the district must either hire a second teacher or split the class into morning and afternoon sessions to keep kindergarten full-day. Shane said parents met Sept. 11 and generally supported the district's approach.
Shane and Superintendent Aaron Miller told the board they expect that if a second kindergarten teacher is hired this year, there would be enough work to retain that teacher the following year should incoming enrollment fall. The board also added several related items to the October agenda: review of the district graduation policy (requested by Shane Brown) and review of the district's cell phone/personal device policy (requested by Chair Judy Miles).
