Students report strong athletics, new clubs and community service ahead of winter break

Student representatives from across the district summarized holiday activities, athletics and service projects during the Dec. 19 meeting. Nancy Diaz Sanchez, student representative to the board, said winter sports were "in full swing," noted the swim team was hosting a meet in Hood River and highlighted that TDHS has, for the first time, a complete girls' wrestling team this year. She also described a lockdown drill conducted with law enforcement and the arrival of 2023–24 yearbooks.
Other building representatives reported local events: Chenowith students planned a winter party and a 5th-grade dance on Jan. 17; Dry Hollow held a Cozy Christmas Carol Night and launched Oregon Battle of the Books; TDMS collected more than 800 items for St. Vinnie’s Food Bank; and TDHS reported 191 students with a 3.5 GPA or higher and a girls' basketball record of 5-0, ranked #2 in the state. The board acknowledged the reports and thanked students for their work and school spirit.
