Gregory Price, director of the Columbia Gorge Small Business Development Center, asked the board to endorse and help promote a 10‑week Youth Entrepreneurship Program for The Dalles High School and the Innovation Academy. Price said the program is fully funded through SBDC operational funds, grants and community sponsorships and requires no financial contribution from the district.
Price described a curriculum of weekly sessions with local business speakers, a Shark Tank‑style pitch competition and hands‑on projects. He said the Lincoln County pilot had over 30 participants with about 20 completing the course and roughly $12,000 awarded to students in scholarships and seed funding. "Students develop a pitch deck ... Winners receive funding (hundreds to thousands of dollars) that can be applied toward starting a real business," Price said. The SBDC asked the district to support recruitment and logistics; district staff will coordinate with Stephanie Bowen and high‑school principals on implementation timing (options include spring 2025 or fall).
