The Town Board set a public hearing for Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. to consider Local Law No. 2 of 2026, which would authorize the town to override the state tax levy limit for the 2027 budget. Supervisor Ricard emphasized the vote to set a hearing does not commit the board to raising taxes; it only authorizes the board to exceed the cap if required by next year’s fiscal pressures.
Ricard told the board that county actions reduced sales-tax revenue expected for the first three months of next year and that pension estimates for the town show "it's just approximately a $62,000 increase in pension costs," which together with other pressures could require either service cuts or added revenue. The board moved, seconded and carried the motion to set the public hearing.
Residents will have the opportunity to comment at the Sept. 8 hearing before the board decides whether to adopt a local law authorizing a tax-levy override.
